Working with the greenkeepers in planning, we were brought in to carry out decompaction of all greens after a long summer of uninterrupted play. When thinking about how best to approach a particular sports turf aeration job, there are various solutions possible.
Our solution for Caernarfon Golf Club
For these works, it was agreed to use the Imants Shockwave; we worked ahead of play, to ensure there was no interruption to members.
The Shockwave is a linear decompactor, designed to revitalise heavy wear areas by relieving soil compaction. It works by cutting linear grooves to a depth of 10” and, as the blades cut through the ground, they kick side-to-side to break up compaction in the profile. This creates air space in the profile for roots to grow to increase root depth and plant health. This air space will also allow surface moisture to work through the profile and into the drainage system below.
Caernarfon Golf Club
Sitting on the shore of the world famous Menai Straits and nestled below the beautifully rugged Eryri National Park and over looked by Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) Caernarfon Golf Club has some of the finest scenery of any golf course. The course is an 18 hole parkland lay out, with lush fairways and smooth running Greens. Built in 1909 it has developed from an original 9 hole to a fair and challenging 18 hole championship course.
The course has held the Boys and Girls Welsh championship; we have hosted some world-renowned leaders in David LLoyd George and Winston Churchill, who met here and played a few rounds while discussing world affairs no doubt.
